A scene from 1948 during spring flooding at the 19th and Main, looking to the northeast, as the Crete Volunteer Fire Department’s 1946 LaFrance pumper truck (front) and 1928 GMC pumper engage the flood waters. The two homes visible, one straddling both photos and the one to the left still stand today. North Ward’s brick schoolhouse, barely seen in the background, is gone and North Ward Park remains at the corner of 20th and Main.
